We had some time on our hands those first days as we were still waiting on the rest of our unit to make it in from Alabama. We spent the time mustering in the morning for information, doing small set up jobs, running comm wire.

I have, for some time, been against protest voting. However, being a classical liberal, I find that both of the major political parties in this country fall far from lining up with my actual political views. There are times I find myself pulling for a Republican candidate (San Bernardino’s own Jerry Lewis in the house, Ron Paul for President, etc.), but they tend to be those that lean far to the right of the party line on economics and foreign policy issues. By and large, I have had a tendency to “protest vote” (that is, to vote for the candidate I most agree with, knowing the he will not win).

I love used bookstores. I never buy books at Barnes and Noble or Borders or any of the mad billion-dollar-minded big chains like that. Sure, I use Damnazon sometimes, but only after scouring all the used book stores on my beat for a title and coming up empty.
